Pigtoberfest

Pigtoberfest

WHAT IS PIGTOBERFEST ?

A total blast for our entire Open Door church family to gather at our Lorain campus site for great food, family friendly activities, conversations and hanging out together. We meet and worship on 4 campuses so we don’t get to see each other often, so we make this our “family time.” Don’t miss connecting, competing, and laughing until your face hurts.

WHEN IS PIGTOBERFEST ?

Sunday, October 13th at 3:30pm at our Open Door Lorain Campus, 1121 Tower Boulevard, Lorain. Campus is under construction, so we will be outdoors for this event except for some activity in the gym.

SERVE AT PIGTOBERFEST ?

Please SIGN UP HERE ; we have a place for you to serve! For planning purposes we do have some roles that we wish to assign.

PIGTOBERFEST FAQs:

What do I bring to the Pigtoberfest?

Since we are providing the pulled pork and chicken and hot dogs, paper products and drinks, we need YOU to bring the side dishes. Each campus has been assigned items to bring. It’s easy peasy!

Pick up an aluminum “half pan” starting Sunday, Sept 22 through Oct 6, in the CrossRoads area at your campus, then prepare the item on the label. We’ll grab it from your car when you drive up for the event at 3:30 to fill up the food lines, allowing us to start dinner at 4:00 pm.

What items are each campus responsible for?

There are specific amounts of each item that we need to feed a group of this size. We provide the pan and lid; you fill it.

Each pan has a label and are available to take on a first come-first serve basis.

Elyria –Mac n Cheese, Sweet Potato Casserole, Cheesy Potatoes, Corn Casserole, Green salad w/one bottle of dressing, Cookies (a batch/4 dozen)

Avon Lake – Cheesy Potatoes; Green beans (with ham/bacon), or Green bean casserole; Corn Casserole; Cookies (a batch/4 dozen)

Vermilion – Cheesy Potatoes, Baked beans, Coleslaw, Cookies (a batch/4 dozen)

Where do I bring my food?

At 3:30 pm on 10/13, a food line will be ready for ‘Drive-Thru’ Service. Enter campus off Tower Boulevard for our volunteers to take your items (in the alum pans) then go park your car and come back for the fun! We will be glad to keep your food hot or cold! (Bring hot foods heated, please).

Where do I park?

Event staff & volunteers that arrive early should park in the back parking lots on campus. Those with limited mobility can park in the front lot. Additional parking is available at Lorain Animal Hospital on Oberlin Rd/Tower Blvd. The parking team in the the green vests will direct you.

Where are we eating?

Tables and chairs will be set up in the grass and the parking lot. Bring a blanket if you prefer to sit on the grass closer to the games.

What can my kids do besides pig out?

Specific areas are set up for kids – a toddler corral, bounce house, face painting, family kickball. Get to know some other parents as you watch your kids have fun.

I am a “big” kid, what fun stuff can I do?

Enjoy the 9-square in the air, play football or soccer, and  the traditional corn hole tournament. We provide the tables, and you can connect with your friends til the sun goes down. This year we are adding LIVE music, a quilt raffle for a beautiful handmade queen size quilt and a car smashing experience… no kidding!

Is there really a car to smash?

Yes! NEW this year -It’s called Bash for Bikes!  For a donation, take a sledgehammer and bash a car with all  the proceeds going to Lorain city schools where a deserving student gets the chance to win a bike.

Is there corn hole?

Yes, walk up registration during the event – a single elimination tournament of 16 teams. Winners get a gift card!

What about this quilt raffle?

One of our quilters had donated a handmade quilt, with the proceeds going to fund college for those in the Esperanza program in El Salvador. This allows a family to end the cycle of generational poverty and get a great job and a new start in life. Tickets are $1/each; the quilt will be displayed at each campus from 9/22 through 10/13.

Not into sports?

Enjoy the sweet sounds of LIVE MUSIC ! How about entering the Homemade Pie Contest and/or enter your Best Chili recipe to win bragging rights and a gift card!! Enjoy the food and fun as you chat it up with friends old and new.
