Don loves that Open Door is doing what other churches talk about: serving people and meeting real physical and spiritual needs. He has somewhat varied responsibilities that tie together in interesting ways. He is the former Director of Missions, and has recently transitioned into the role of Director of the Generation House, a future family housing project that is a part of the 20/20 Vision Campaign.
He was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina and moved to Erie, Pennsylvania at a very young age. His parents raised him with a love of music and as a young graduate, was part of a show group which traveled around the Eastern part of the country. He also was part of a performing duo, called Don & Marie, before there ever was a Donnie and Marie. He and his wife were both saved in their living room about 24 years ago when an Evangelism Explosion team came to visit. Since that time, their faith in Christ has grown immensely and their desire to serve is ever increasing.
His greatest love is for people and seeing them come to Christ. It thrills him to watch as new Christians grow into mature, God-loving Christ followers and then watching as they themselves start leading others in the adventure of becoming like Christ.
He is married to his wife, Paula, and together have three grown children: Joann, Andrea and Brian… and a lovable dog, Buddy. When he’s not at church, he enjoys reading, playing guitar and writing worship music.
