Amanda Winfree is the Missions Coordinator here at Church of the Open Door. She was born in Hong Kong, China, and her parents were missionaries and English teachers. They lived in China until she was two years old and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Fast forward to sixth grade; she felt the Lord asking her to be a missionary. In seventh grade, she went on her first missions trip to Mexico working with orphan children. Since then, she has been on 13 missions trips and to 9 different countries. Her goal in life is to tell as many people about Jesus as she can and love them to His kingdom.
From middle school all the way until her Freshman year of college she was set on being a missionary in Africa. She was going to college to be an elementary school teacher and use that trade overseas as a missionary. Instead, God had her leave her first college, come to Cleveland to attend a small discipleship school, where they were studying Intercultural studies and traveling the world. From there, the Lord asked her to train with a professional dance company for three years (not having a day of training in her life). In the summer of 2017, she got married to the man of her dreams, the Lord had her leave the dance company, and had her apply for the Children’s Director position at Open Door. Lo and behold, she started talking about missions in the interview and ended up landing a position in the missions department instead! She is an extremely passionate person who loves Jesus, loves people, and she loves making new friends. She has joy when she is in cultures unlike her own, and loves to dance. She wants to see our communities and world changed for Jesus, and her heart yearns for every tribe, tongue, and nation to hear about our one and only Savior, Jesus Christ.
If you see her in the halls on Sunday, feel free to stop her and say hi! She loves meeting new faces!
