Reading God’s Word: 1 John 2:7-3:3, Psalm 142:1-7
Memorizing God’s Word: Isaiah 53:5-6 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Meditating on God’s Word: 1 John 2:15 (ESV) Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Praying God’s Word: “Father, in our reading today we find ourselves drawn to verse 15. Here we read that we have two, and only two, choices. We can either love you, or we can love the world, but we cannot love both. Forgive us for being so caught up in this world that we find our affections drawn away from you. Instead, help us to love you so much that the things of this world, the pride of life, the lust of the eyes, and the lust of the flesh, fade away into insignificance. Amen.”
